THOMPSON STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF

EUNICE KENNEDY SHRIVER

New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued the following statement on the death of Eunice Kennedy Shriver:

"Today, I join with millions of Americans in mourning the loss of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, a truly selfless individual who has left an indelible mark on this country. As the founder of the Special Olympics four decades ago, she forever changed the lives of countless individuals living with disabilities. Through her tireless advocacy and encouragement, Eunice Kennedy Shriver showed that disabilities should not be a barrier to success and achievement. Her legacy will be one of hope and service. I offer my condolences to her family and friends and to all of those whose lives she enriched."
