Dear Lucas, I am very happy to report that my candidacy for New York City Comptroller has just been endorsed by Felix Rohatyn and Jay Goldin, two of the people most responsible for saving the City from the 1970s fiscal crisis.
In college, I wrote a term paper on the fiscal crisis. Ever since, Ambassador Rohatyn and Comptroller Goldin have been two of my civic heroes. Together with the great labor leader Victor Gotbaum and, of course, many others, they crafted a rescue plan that was both tough-minded and compassionate -- and most important, realistic.
As I have campaigned over the past few months, I have been increasingly mindful that New York City could face a day of reckoning comparable to that of October 1975. As the next Comptroller, I am determined to do everything in my power to avert that day -- by eliminating wasteful spending and developing real bioscience and green technology sectors to complement Wall Street. But I am glad to know that if a true crisis comes, I will be able to draw on the wisdom and expertise of Felix Rohatyn and Jay Goldin.
I look forward to serving you as Comptroller and am grateful for all that you continue to do to help me get there. Our deadline to receive matching funds is August 31st. Please help me by getting 2 friends to contribute $50, $100, or $175 to help us reach our fundraising goals and expand my base of support. Your involvement is critical to this election -- I can't thank you enough.
Sincerely,
David Yassky
