Dear Lucas,

I'm inviting you to join me tomorrow evening for a Brooklyn house party, where we'll also be joined by special guest Mo Vaughn!

The event will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, August 18th, from 6:30-8:00pm in Carroll Gardens. For more details and to RSVP, please call 212.370.0700 or email sarah@ericgioia.com .

As a slugging first baseman, Mo was an all-star on the baseball diamond for over a decade in the major leagues. But his work off the field to create affordable housing is truly inspiring.

Read about Mo's work to develop housing in the New York Times.

I hope you'll join us on Tuesday evening to talk about ways that we can ensure that middle-class New Yorkers, and those working to get there, can continue to live in homes they can afford, and in neighborhoods that are safe and clean.

Preserving affordable housing, and creating additional housing opportunities, will be one of my top priorities as Public Advocate, as it has been over the past eight years:

  • When the city failed to protect tenants, I sued the landlord, forcing him to make repairs on the deteriorating building and winning back rent for all the tenants
  • We passed the largest investment in over 30 years in affordable & middle income housing with a new project on the Queens waterfront
  • I brought funding for security cameras that decrease crime to New York City public housing units

We're running a different kind of campaign - all of my events are pay whatever you can, even $5 or $10, because everyone deserves to have their voice heard. At this point, we've built a broad grassroots base, with more contributors than any other candidate, and our most common contribution remains just $10.

I look forward to discussing housing needs and other important issues facing New York with you on Tuesday night, and you can contact me anytime at ericgioia@ericgioia.com . By working together, I know that we can make our city a better place.

Sincerely,
Eric Gioia
