In Matter of Dustin P. v. Richard P ., the Oneida County Department of Social Services filed neglect charges against Richard P., for his failure to provide adequate medical care for his kid.
Apparently, Dustin P. had suicidal and homicidal tendencies but his dad refused to pursue counseling to help resolve family issues (including his kid's violent inclinations). It wasn't until the child jumped out of a second-story window -- and sustained a spinal fracture -- that Richard took interest.
When Richard moved to dismiss the case brought against him, the Oneida County Family Court denied the request and found Social Services had established neglect.
On appeal, the Appellate Division, Fourth Department, agreed Richard had failed to provide his child with adequate medical care. (The neglect finding was unrebutted by Richard and was supported by a preponderance of the evidence.)
This Richard wasn't faster than that bullet.
