We've received this announcement from the Gioia campaign :
Dear Lucas,
Major news from the campaign: Geraldine Ferraro, former Congresswoman and the first woman to serve as the Vice Presidential nominee for a major party, is endorsing Eric Gioia for Public Advocate . She'll be joining Eric as a special guest at his birthday celebration on May 6th, from 6 to 8 pm at the Union Square Ballroom The invitation follows at the end of this email; we hope to see you there.
Ms. Ferraro first met Eric as a small boy helping out in his family's flower shop, where she'd go to buy flowers. Here's what Ms. Ferraro said about Eric as he now runs for citywide office:

"In this economy, our next Public Advocate will have the responsibility to make sure working New Yorkers have a voice in City Hall and Eric Gioia is uniquely qualified to be that voice. I've known his family for a long time. Eric brings to every job he undertakes the values he learned from them. They are a very hard working family. Eric attended NYC public schools but in order to pay his way through NYU he worked nights as a janitor, doorman and elevator operator, and while attending law school at Georgetown, he worked in the White House deputy counsel's office."
"There is no doubt that Eric understands what it means to struggle in order to make ends meet. And he has taken that experience to the City Council where he has worked to cut government waste, inefficiency and mismanagement and has focused on cutting bureaucratic red tape so that working parents can get food stamps for their families. He has a long list of accomplishments in the City Council which I applaud. I'm sure Eric's family is proud of him and his accomplishments. I am too and I am pleased to endorse him for Public Advocate. I know his election will make every New Yorker proud."
We hope to see you on May 6th - along with your friends, neighbors and coworkers. Because Eric is dedicated to lowering the barriers to political participation, this event is give whatever you can - even if it's just ten dollars. Eric believes that by getting people off the sidelines, we can make a true difference in our City.
To help us introduce even more people to Eric and the work he is doing, please consider taking an afternoon, evening, or weekend to make phone calls, knock on doors, or talk to your neighbors about why this campaign matters - just give us a call at 212.370.0700 or sign up online at www.ericgioia.com to get involved.
