Here's an announcement we just received from the De Blasio campaign :
Dear Friends,
Today we are excited to announce that Bill is the first Public Advocate candidate to be publicly endorsed by current members of the U.S. Congress. Congressman Edolphus "Ed" Towns and Congresswoman Yvette Clarke have announced they are endorsing Bill for Public Advocate!
The endorsement by two of New York's most prominent African-American and Caribbean-American leaders adds fresh momentum to our campaign. Congressmembers Clarke and Towns join Bill's growing coalition, which includes recent endorsements by the Working Families Party, the ACORN Political Action Committee APAC, and CWA District 1.
"Bill truly understands the needs of working and middle-class families," said Rep. Towns. "From his days as the Regional Executive of HUD to the City Council, Bill has been a vocal defender of New York City residents against housing discrimination and a fighter for affordable housing. Bill has been an advocate for our City for many years. I proudly endorse him for Public Advocate."
"I am proud to endorse Bill de Blasio for Public Advocate," said Rep. Clarke. "As a friend and former colleague of his in the New York City Council, I know that he has worked tirelessly to expand access to child care, build affordable housing and create living wage jobs for all New Yorkers. From his experience working in the Clinton Administration to his current chairmanship of the City Council's General Welfare Committee, Bill has always demonstrated an unwavering commitment to engaging our communities in the decision making process. I know that as our next Public Advocate, Bill will be the independent leader New Yorkers need to bring the people's voice back into City Hall."
Rep. Towns (NY-10), chair of the powerful Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Rep. Clarke (NY-11) represent a diverse constituency in Central Brooklyn.
As always, we thank you for your unparalleled support. We look forward to working with you to make Bill New York City's next Public Advocate!
