"Governor Paterson has taken a bold step today by proposing Marriage Equality legislation, and I applaud him for sending the message that New York is in solidarity with vanguard states like Vermont, Iowa, and Massachusetts when it comes to universal equality. Let's face it--love is love, and now it's my hope lawmakers will put love and commitment over divisiveness and politics and approve this groundbreaking measure to protect New Yorkers from discriminatory laws and afford gay couples the same legal marriage rights that straight couples enjoy."
