If you're an attorney, you're likely bombarded with hundreds (if not thousands) of announcements and invites to forums and continuing legal education (CLE) classes sponsored by every conceivable provider under the sun.
Our local bar associations are the worst offenders, issuing seemingly endless reminders of events that also appear in hard-copy catalogs and flyers that clog up our desks and trash cans.
More often than not, these communications are lackluster and annoying.
So you can imagine our surprise when we received an e-mail from the "stuffy" New York City Bar Association that broke with tradition.
Earlier this morning, the City Bar announced that there will be a cocktail reception on January 11, 2008, honoring Jonathan Lippman, the Presiding Justice of the Appellate Division, First Department. (Of course, that's not the interesting part. Judges, particularly those charged with administrating the court system, get honored all the time.)
If you read further, you'll see that the PJ's life has been turned into a "musical" that will be performed by "talented members of the Bench and Bar."
And here's the kicker, Judith Kaye, Chief Judge of the New York State of Court of Appeals, has agreed to serve as the evening's "Mistress of Revels."
Oy! [Insert your own punchline here.]
