I've been involved with a few political campaigns over the years, and when a candidate is asking people to fork over a thousand bucks, most contributors are expecting to get at least a little "face-time."
Let's be frank. For that kind of after-tax (nondeductible) money, people are looking to have a few minutes in the same room with the candidate and are hoping to engage in a bit of mindless banter, or at least get some form of acknowledgment or recognition -- like a nod, smile, wave, wink, handshake, hug, or even a quick photo opp.
But don't expect that from Obama. He's on a roll.
He's so hot that his fundraisers are asking people to fork over $1000 (and more) to attend events where "the man" isn't even present.
Check out this invitation I received just the other day:
Now that's change!
