EDWARDS DIDN'T JUST BETRAY HIS WIFE ...

edwards1.jpgMichael Miller, former President of the New York County Lawyers' Association , and a respected Trusts and Estates practitioner, has circulated an e-mail to friends and former supporters of John Edwards's failed bid to be President of the United States.

In his note -- which we received moments ago -- Miller expresses his sense of betrayal and disappointment with the revelation that, during the course of the campaign, the candidate was engaged in an extramarital affair (and may have fathered a "love child").

Since we agree with the sentiments expressed by the writer, we have reproduced his e-mail below:

Dear Lucas,

I am rarely at a loss for words but how do I express the profound sense of betrayal and disappointment that has hung over me these past few days?

John Edwards's irresponsible and reckless behavior is shocking.  His outlandish explanation is deeply troubling and he has absolutely no credibility.  The issue is not infidelity - it is dishonesty and lack of integrity.

From the very beginning of the campaign, Edwards knew that he was deeply vulnerable.  He disregarded the people who placed their hopes and trust in him, who made sacrifices to promote his candidacy, who believed in his qualifications and platforms and worked their hearts out for him.  He disregarded the potential damage that could befall the Democratic Party. And when confronted, he lied.

Edwards put on a great front but in the end, he turned out to be just another phony politician.  As even former campaign chairman David Bonior stated, John Edwards betrayed us all.

While I thought I had part of a noble campaign, now, I just feel used.

Michael
