JENNA RULES?

First Daughter, Jenna Bush , is doing the rounds and promoting her new book, Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope  (Harper Collins, 2007)

On Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at 7:30 PM, she's scheduled to appear at the Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus  -- site of the 24th Annual Miami Book Fair .

What we find interesting about the event are the security protocols that have been implemented.

Organizers are advising ticketholders:

  • to arrive two (2) hours before the presentation's scheduled start time;
  • to keep umbrellas, backpacks, tote bags, or other bags (including purses) at home or they will be subject to search;
  • they will be swept by metal-detection wands;
  • they will not be permitted to carry sharp objects;
  • that metal objects, such as keys, cellphones and the like, are to be carried in their hands; and
  • they will not be permitted to leave.

One reader quipped that those are some of the same rules you'll find at your local prison and at Guantanamo Bay .

By the way, after going through that hassle, here's what you can expect if you decide to attend:

  • Jenna will take not take questions.*
  • Jenna will only sign up to three copies per person of Ana's Story, but will not personalize. She will not sign photographs, memorabilia or other items.
  • Jenna will not pose for photographs.

Killjoy!

*Ironically, Jenna purports to have met "Ana" -- the protagonist of her new book -- at a forum where the participants were allowed to interact with the First Daughter. Now that she's got this project under her belt, it appears that Jenna ain't interested in hearing from anyone ("in need" or otherwise).
