HOW MUCH CAN MY RENT BE INCREASED?

A reader sent us the following question:

Could you please tell me what is the 2007 rent increase for an apartment that is not rent control or rent stabilized for 1 year?

Thank you.    Jose M.

There are currently no "caps" or limits applied to fair-market leases. In other words, outside of rent regulation, a landlord can usually charge whatever the market will bear.

While some landlords who own free-market rental buildings will track the stabilization guideline increases, there is no requirement that they do so.
