DISRESPECT COSTS COP CASH

Comedian Rodney Dangerfield's catch-phrase was, " No respect. I don't get no respect, at all. "

In some professions, disrespecting a superior's order can get you into a heap of hot water and, if you're a New York City Police Officer, it could also cost you some pay.

In Matter of Padilla v. Kelly , Officer Padilla challenged a decision by New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly , who placed Padilla on probationary dismissal and deducted 32 days of pay due to Padilla's failure to comply with a superior officer's lawful order.

When Padilla filed an administrative proceeding in the New York County Supreme Court, the matter was transferred to the Appellate Division, First Department, which found the Commissioner's actions to be supported by "substantial evidence" and the penalty imposed to be appropriate under the circumstances.

Apparently, resistance IS futile .
