UPS DELIVERED DISCRIMINATION HERE

WILL PAY $150K AND REINSTATE DISCHARGED EMPLOYEE

Because the United Parcel Service (UPS) declined to grant a diabetic employee a “short break to check his blood sugar and eat or drink something if necessary,” and subsequently terminated him, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Jacksonville Division (EEOC v. United Parcel Service, Inc., Case No. 3:21-cv-00656-BJD-JRK), alleging a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and seeking monetary damages and injunctive relief.

In March of 2023, a judge sided with the EEOC, and in late December, the parties announced an agreement, wherein UPS would reinstate the guy's employment and also pay him $150,000.  It also agreed to modify its employment related policies and practices.

In a written statement, EEOC Regional Attorney Robert Weisberg noted that, “We commend UPS for working collaboratively with the EEOC to resolve the remaining issues in this lawsuit …. The company’s willingness to address the EEOC’s concerns and its agreement to implement preventative measures and train management and human resources personnel without additional litigation will benefit its workers and the company.”

Now that’s sweet.
