THE DC INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL has been supporting filmmakers and their films and “keeping the independent spirit alive in our nation’s capitol.”

Its website notes, that “As a competitive festival, all films are Washington DC premieres and many are U.S. and world premieres. Through screenings, seminars, workshops and discussions with the United States Congress, DCIFF gives independent filmmakers opportunities for their voices to be heard in a way that no other festival can provide.”

At this year’s festivities, which are scheduled from February 21-25, 2024, you’ll find DRAGONFLY” — written and directed by Julia Morizawa. This animated short film was inspired by the lives of Julia’s maternal grandparents and the stories her mom shared about growing up on the family farm in Japan.

Based upon the devastating impact of the Tokyo Firebombing of March 9-10, 1945, this unique work addresses “the generational trauma of war, the power of family, and finding the strength to rise from the ashes.”
