MASS MAILING FRAUDSTER ONLY GETS 72 MONTHS

STOLE MORE THAN $50 MILLION FROM VICTIMS

RY (41) of Upper Saddle River (New Jersey), supposedly stole more than $50 million from victims across America (and other countries) who were falsely informed that they were going to receive large sums of money or luxury prizes in exchange for a $20 to $40 fee.

For about 8 years, RY and his cohorts sent out phony prize notification letters, and after the victims paid the demanded processing fees, they mostly received nothing in exchange. (Some reportedly received cheap pieces of jewelry or restaurant coupons.)

In a written statement, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian M. Boynton of the Justice Department’s Civil Division noted that, “The defendant in this case defrauded victims through multiple mail fraud schemes, depriving vulnerable Americans out of more than $50 million …. The Justice Department and its federal law enforcement partners are committed to investigating and prosecuting those who target vulnerable American consumers for financial gain.”

Interestingly, despite the large sum of money that was purloined, RY was only sentenced to 72 months in prison, and two years of supervised release.

Did they not have their eye on the prize?
