MAN DIES AFTER ENCOUNTER WITH LOCAL POLICE
On October 10, 2023, when two Suffolk County Police Officers responded to a call for assistance, they encountered a man, AW, who was wielding “two swords.”
When he approached the officers, AW was tased by one, but that reportedly failed to stop him. As he continued to advance, the other officer fired his service weapon and killed AW.
Under New York State law, the Office of Special Investigation (OSI) is required to investigate every encounter with police, peace and/or corrections officers, resulting in a person’s death “by an act or omission."
As noted in the New York AG’s press release, “These are preliminary facts and subject to change.”
No changing the fact that AW is dead ….
