WE HAD A BEEF WITH THIS STROGANOFF

While its historical accuracy is contested, some food writers claim that Beef Stroganoff was created by a French chef who worked for a wealthy Russian family. When it won a cooking contest back in 1891, the dish was named after the creator’s employer – Count Pavel Alexandrovich Stroganov.
▫️
Whether you believe that or not, most agree its origins can be traced back to St. Petersburg, Russia, where the dish was supposedly made with mushrooms, mustard, honey, onions, beef, sour cream, oil, salt and pepper. Famed American chef, James Beard, who pioneered televised cooking shows, had a recipe which used beef tenderloin, butter, olive oil, scallions, wine/vermouth, sour cream, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, cooked noodles and chopped parsley (garnish).
▫️
While we were at Reunion Ktchn Bar [sic], located at 18167 Biscayne Blvd, in Aventura (Florida), our waiter touted the “Filet Mignon Stroganoff -- Artisanal Bread.” ($27 BEFORE tax and tip). While we thought the presentation was cute, this iteration struck us as more like a creamy mushroom soup with not enough meat. Because we found it disappointing, it rated a lowly “C-.”
▫️
Given its $33+ cost (all in), and its adverse health impacts (given the fact that it’s high in calories and fat), let’s just say, I wouldn’t steak my life on this dish.
