Karen Jemmott

As an innovator, community leader, health and wellness advocate, researcher and editor, Karen is dedicated to promoting disease prevention and health education. She has spearheaded numerous successful health symposiums, collectively drawing an attendance of over 10,000 participants and raising over $200,000 in sponsorship. Her health outreach endeavors have focused on many of the major health concerns affecting youth, women, men and seniors, such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity, HIV/AIDS, mental health and domestic violence. Committed to health awareness, Karen has also created health resource guides, The Life Saver, Through the Grapevine, Turning Point and Daily Living in Brooklyn, to equip youth, women, men and seniors with the information they need to make better health decisions.

About Senator Hamilton:

Senator Hamilton has spent his entire career helping people, including over 15 years as an elected official in Crown Heights, eight years as President of the School Board and eight years representing our community as District Leader of the 43rd Assembly District.

Senator Hamilton served as the President of the Lincoln Civic Block Association, where he organized community actions that enhanced quality of life in his neighborhood. One of the Association’s greatest achievements was bringing the community together after the tragic shooting of Benny Lyde, and bringing Benny’s killers to justice. Jesse Hamilton founded the Rosa Parks Democratic Club in 2006 in honor of the civil rights activist.

Senator Hamilton is a proud member of DC 37 and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He was born and raised in New York City, and graduated from Ithaca College. He has an MBA from Long Island University and a JD law degree from Seton Hall Law School. His wife, Judge Lorna McAllister graduated from Smith College and has a JD from Rutgers University School of Law. They have lived in Brooklyn for over 20 years and have two children, Carla and Jesse IV, and a Dachshund named Paxton.
