If you care about equal pay for women, raising the minimum wage and protecting Social Security and Medicare, this needs your attention:
My friends Senators Barbara Mikulski of Maryland and Patty Murray of Washington are facing reelection in 2016, and if we don’t invest in these two women now, we lose any chance at taking back our Democratic Senate next year:
- Barbara is the first Democratic woman ever elected to the Senate in her own right and the longest-serving woman in U.S. Congress. A tireless advocate for accessible health care and affordable education, Barbara’s never shied from a challenge. But she’ll be a target for extremists looking to solidify their Senate majority in 2016, and she needs the resources to fight back.
- Patty’s a model of how things should operate in Washington: putting politics aside to pass meaningful legislation for women and working-class families. After winning her last election by less than five points, Patty can’t win another tight race unless supporters like you step up early.
There’s no secret strategy – if these candidates have the funds, they will win. It’s simple, but they need our help to do it.
When I was elected to the Senate, Barbara and Patty were two of the first people to show me the ropes, offering invaluable guidance on making progress in Washington.
And I hung on to every word, because Barbara and Patty aren’t just two of the first Democratic women elected to the Senate – they’re two of our strongest progressive leaders. Period.
We can take back our Democratic Senate in 2016 – but only if we start now, defending every seat and backing up our strongest leaders.
Thank you for standing with me!
