We received the following announcement from our friend, Steve De Castro (pictured left):
Hi folks, as you may know, I have been producing a documentary for the public television market on the life and work of the avante garde jazz composer, baritone saxophonist, and author Fred Ho. Now, on August 10, you will be able to see some footage of my documentary, and you will get to enjoy a tribute jazz concert in one of New York's most beautiful recital halls for free. What a treat!
Fred Ho is a jazz opera composer, an asian american activist, and an award-winning author, who has been fighting terminal cancer for 7 years. This last year, Fred has been cementing his legacy with a flurry of book launches, concerts, and talks, culminating in his magnum opus: a manga-inspired jazz opera on a New York stage, which got rave reviews in the New York Times. My film, Fred Ho's Last Year, is a celebration of his life and music, as well as a meditation on the meaning of cancer and the meaning of life. I hope you will enjoy this evening.

A DOCUMENTARY PREVIEW SCREENING
Although the celebration is evolving, we know that we will be screening scenes from the documentary FRED HO's LAST YEAR, produced by Steven De Castro and Howard Fischer. Half the funds collected will go towards the documentary, as a way of bringing Fred's legacy to new audiences.
A MUSICAL TRIBUTE BY THE ACCLAIMED SCIENTIFIC SOUL SESSIONS BAND
This celebration will include a special tribute performance by the musicians who have played with Fred for years.
The main event is, of course, our honoree, Fred Ho. Even through his struggle with cancer, he has always found a way to share what he has learned to bring some greater understanding in our lives. Mark August 10 on your calendars, and RSVP today!
