Lucas,
We lost a champion for good government this week when President Trump fired noted corruption-buster Preet Bharara from his job as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. As I explained on MSNBC, Bharara notched major convictions on behalf of New York taxpayers—and we owe him a debt.
Bharara's absence now leaves a dangerous void. We can no longer depend on the federal government to clean up New York. We must do it ourselves.
That’s why I’ve drafted legislation to finally give our local state prosecutors the teeth and the tools they need to bring corruption cases against dirty politicians. My bills will empower District Attorneys and their investigators to pick up where Bharara left off by strengthening the laws against abuse of power and by making its penalties much harsher. Believe it or not, right now abusing the public’s trust is not even a felony in New York.
I need your support to get this important legislation passed so we can put more cops on the beat to weed out and punish corruption. Please contribute what you can today so our voices are heard.
Thank you as always for your support. The fight for clean government continues.
Sincerely,
Todd
