As cleanup from this week's winter storm continues, the New York City
Emergency Management agency today is asking New Yorkers to sign up for
paid work as emergency snow laborers to remove snow and ice from bus stops,
crosswalks, fire hydrants, staircases, and other locations throughout the city.
Interested individuals can register at local NYC Department of Sanitation garages tomorrow and every day through Saturday from 8 am until 3 pm. Registered individuals should report for work at 8 am.
The list of NYC Sanitation Department garage locations can be found below (I have listed those in Manhattan at the top). Snow laborers will be paid $15.00 per hour, and $22.50 for each hour of labor after 40 hours are worked in a week - an increase from the previous year. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, eligible to work in the United States, and capable of performing heavy physical labor.
All applicants must bring:
1. Two small photos (1 ½ square).
2. Original and copy of two forms of identification.
3. Social Security card or Tax ID Number.
