Program has Awarded Nearly $174 Million to Build or Improve more than 9,000 Homes to Date

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo recently announced $5.8 million to construct, rehabilitate and improve the homes of 338 income-eligible families across New York. The funds are awarded through New York State Homes and Community Renewal's Affordable Home Ownership Development Program, administered by the Affordable Housing Corporation. To date, the program has awarded nearly $174 million to create or improve more than 9,000 homes.

"This funding will help more New Yorkers in every corner of this state achieve and preserve the American Dream of homeownership," Governor Cuomo said. "With this program, we are taking one more step toward ensuring every New Yorker has the opportunity to have a safe, decent and affordable place to call home."

The awards announced today will make improvements to existing owner-occupied single or multi-family homes, condominiums or cooperatives; acquire and rehabilitate owner-occupied homes for sale, including single and multi-family homes, condominiums, or cooperatives; and construct new owner-occupied homes for sale, including single and multi-family homes, condominiums, or cooperatives including dilapidated and manufactured homes.

Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas said, "Safe, high-quality housing promotes economic strength for families and communities. The Affordable Home Ownership Program works by helping more hardworking families to achieve the dream of homeownership and put down roots leading to more stable and to more vibrant neighborhoods. These awards epitomize Governor Cuomo’s commitment to ensuring that all New Yorkers have access to affordable homes.”
