Every decade, states must redraw voting district lines based on population
shifts. This should be done in a fair, nonpartisan way, but in most states
we have gerrymandered districts drawn to heavily favor Republicans.
However, all of a sudden we have a big opportunity to end Republican gerrymandering.

The next lines will be drawn after the 2020 census. If we can harness
the vast grassroots energy that has emerged to resist Trump and sweep
Republicans out of power in the states in the 2018 and 2020 elections,
then after the next census Republicans won't be in power to rig the
maps again.
This could really happen, and the Democratic Governors Association is
spearheading the effort through their Unrig the Map program. If DGA succeeds,
it will mean an end to gerrymandering and Republicans will have to face
the voters in fairly drawn districts.
