In just a minute, I am going to ask you to make a donation to my re-election campaign. Let me take a shot at explaining why that is so important.
January 11, just four days from now, is the end of a New York City Campaign Finance Board fundraising deadline. Maybe you’ve heard of it? If not, what that means is that just a few days later we are going to publicly report how many people have contributed to our campaign, and how much money we have raised.
It’s a big deal, because a lot of people are waiting to see those numbers — potential opponents, special interests who have spent $13 million trying to stop us, and those who have pledged millions more to come.
A good report will send an unmistakable message that we are ready for anything they throw our way. But we have to hit our own fundraising goals to do that, even better if we get there because we received contributions from a lot of people to put us over the top. So now is when I make that request:
The strength of our campaign comes from the simple truth that when people stand together, anything is possible. That’s how we’re going to win this election, and how we’re going to continue to transform the city into one that offers opportunity for everyone no matter where they live or how much money they make.
In solidarity,
Bill de Blasio
