BECERRA FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL

Dear Lucas,

The California state Senate today announced that it will vote on my confirmation to be our state's Attorney General this coming Monday, January 23. This is exciting news, but I know it's coming with short notice.

If I'm so fortunate to be confirmed on Monday, there will be a swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, January 24. Governor Jerry Brown has indicated that he'd like my swearing-in to take place during his State of the State address on that day. I wanted you to hear this news from me because, ideally, I would want to invite you to be there with me in Sacramento to celebrate this special occasion.

But the timeline is unusually tight, which means it is impossible to arrange a proper celebration on the day of my official swearing-in. And if my swearing-in moves forward as anticipated, I intend to hold a ceremonial swearing-in and reception both in southern and northern California at a date in the near future.

I hope you will not only join me then but also take time beforehand to share your thoughts with me via e-mail or social media (@XavierBecerra on Twitter or Facebook.com/XavierBecerra on Facebook) as I begin this new journey as California's chief law enforcement officer and legal advocate.

Twenty-four awesome years. It has been my extraordinary privilege to serve the people of Los Angeles and our great nation in the U.S. House of Representatives. No matter what happens next, I want you to know this: I've got your back!

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you in the weeks ahead.

Xavier Becerra
