KILLED EX-GIRLFRIEND & SON

DA VANCE: ISAAC DURAN INFANTE CHARGED WITH FATALLY STRANGLING EX-GIRLFRIEND AND THEIR 4-YEAR-OLD SON

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., recently announced the indictment of ISAAC DURAN INFANTE, 23, for strangling Felicia Barahona and their four-year-old son to death in her West Harlem apartment. The defendant is charged in New York State Supreme Court with two counts each of Murder in the First Degree and Murder in the Second Degree.[1]

“This indictment reveals unconscionable acts of violence against a single mother and the defendant’s own defenseless, four-year-old son,” said District Attorney Vance. “Isaac Duran Infante is accused of brutally murdering two people, squeezing the life out of his young son and the boy’s mother just two days before Christmas. Fortunately, his attempts to evade detection and flee the jurisdiction were foiled by the NYPD and my Office’s prosecutors, and he will now face justice for these vicious crimes.”

According to documents filed in court and statements made on the record in court, at approximately 9:15 p.m. on December 22nd, 2016, INFANTE wrapped an electrical cord around Felicia Barahona’s neck, then squeezed the cord so tightly that she choked to death at her apartment on West 153rd Street. After witnessing the violent strangulation of his mother, four-year-old Miguel Barahona was crying in the bathroom when the defendant took a computer cable, tied it around his son’s neck, and fatally suffocated the boy. The defendant then laid the boy’s body face-down in the bathtub under several inches of water.

At approximately 12:27 a.m. on December 23rd, INFANTE changed into Ms. Barahona’s clothing and concealed his face as he exited the apartment building. He fled to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he had been staying with family and where, as he later admitted, he discarded the victim’s clothing. He was apprehended by NYPD detectives on December 27th.

Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg, Chief of the Child Abuse Unit, is handling the prosecution of the case, under the supervision of Executive Assistant District Attorney John Irwin, Chief of the Trial Division. Assistant District Attorney Samuel Cocks is also assisting with the prosecution of this case.

District Attorney Vance also thanked the following members of the NYPD: Sergeant Wilson Quiles, Lieutenant Crinea Ianas, and Detectives Garth Ashman, Wilder Sanchez, Maureen Sheehan, and Carlos Pagan of the 30th Precinct Detective Squad; Lieutenant Patrick Brown and Detective Daniel Corcoran of the Manhattan North Homicide Squad; and Sergeant Edwin Perez and Detectives Rachel Crawford and Andre Bovell of the NYPD Crime Scene Unit.

[1] The charges contained in the indictment are merely allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. All factual recitations are derived from documents filed in court and statements made on the record in court.
