BATTLING CRUEL & UNCONSTITUTIONAL TREATMENT

Dear Lucas,

The Trump Administration's anti-religion, anti-refugee executive order cannot be allowed to stand. In so many ways, it is unjust and anti-American. It discriminates against people based on their faith, denies entry to those with proven and legitimate fears of death and persecution, and tramples on centuries of American tradition.

I'm taking every step possible to defend those who live permanently in our communities who may be barred from re-entry into America. We will do all we can to help those who have completed our rigorous refugee screening process escape death and persecution. And I have spoken with Attorneys General across the country who, like me, are committed to using every tool within our authority to offer victims of this unconscionable Trump edict a fighting chance to overcome this cruel and unconstitutional treatment.

Recently, I was glad to hear many of you voice your concerns at international airports, on the streets of major cities and online. Yet rather than rescind the order, the Trump Administration announced a flawed plan to supposedly scale it back.

We need to speak up more, and take action now....

White House Chief of Staff Reince Preibus suggested this morning he would limit the executive order by saying green card holders from the affected countries will be able to return to the United States. Do not be fooled: border agents would have "discretionary authority" to detain what the Administration views as suspicious travelers from certain countries.

We must stand together, even more vigilantly, against this executive order. Will you share this message on Facebook or Twitter to voice your opposition?

Thank You,

Xavier Becerra
