POWERED BY WORKING PEOPLE

Lucas -

A few weeks ago, I received a contribution to my re-election campaign from a supporter in the Bronx. She said her $5 donation was one citizen’s way of saying thank you for expanding pre-K to every four-year-old in New York City — including her daughter.

I appreciated her message, but unfortunately there are a lot of powerful special interests out there who don’t agree with the fight we’re waging against inequality in our city. They opposed our Pre-K for All effort, and they were the first to speak out against expanding the program to three-year-olds. And they want to take us backward on issues like stop-and-frisk, protecting immigrant families, and the commitment we've made to building trust between police and the communities they serve.

That’s what we’re up against in this election.

But I believe in my heart that when you run a campaign for working people and powered by working people, like that mother from the Bronx, there is nothing anyone can do to stop us. So with our next official campaign finance deadline approaching rapidly, I have to ask:

Can I count on you to make an important $175 donation before our critical NYC Campaign Finance Board fundraising deadline? As a New York City resident, your contribution of up to $175 is matched six to one.

The vast majority of the contributions to my re-election campaign come from a lot of people giving small amounts of money. That’s the way it should be, and I’m proud of that fact. So as we approach another fundraising deadline, please remember that it’s not just about how much money we raise but how many people are making a contribution to power our effort.

In solidarity,

Bill de Blasio
Mayor, New York City
