LEGAL SERVICES OF HUDSON VALLEY iS $1.7 MILLION SHORT

On March 18th, President Trump released his proposed budget which called for the defunding of the Legal Services Corporation (LSC). Since its creation in 1974 with broad bipartisan support, Congress has funded LSC to honor our Republic’s most solemn pledge -- “Justice for All.” Defunding will eliminate more than $1.7 million in grants for our organization, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley.

That will mean more than 4,000 people facing life-changing situations will go unserved in the Hudson Valley. Those are our neighbors… they are women facing domestic violence situations… children and families facing wrongful evictions or foreclosures… veterans wrongfully denied the benefits they earned while serving this country.

Moreover, defunding LSC and our organization will cost taxpayers and communities millions of dollars as they will be forced to provide shelter, and increase social services and other emergency services to those that we cannot help because we simply will not have the resources.

During this, our 50th Anniversary, all of us at Legal Services of the Hudson Valley remain resolute in fighting for justice… in fighting to make the world a better place for everyone to live and work. Since 1967, we’ve helped almost half a million people… one mother… one father… one daughter or son at a time. We hope you’ll stand with us – and thousands of your neighbors – when we need you most.
