WE LOSE 20 VETS A DAY ....

Lucas,

In the U.S. today, a veteran commits suicide every 72 minutes. That’s approximately 20 veterans we are losing each and every day. This is simply unacceptable. In recent years, this epidemic has only gotten worse, and it’s up to us to start the conversation and find solutions.

As a veteran, this issue is incredibly important to me. Our freedoms and values are protected by the men and women who serve in our military, and we have an obligation to support them.

But what does Donald Trump have to say? He recently told a room full of veterans that Soldiers who return from war suffering with PTSD are “not strong” and “can’t handle it.”

Donald Trump's remarks aren't just hurtful, they're insulting to the men and women who serve this country. Equally shocking is that my opponent, who claims to be a thoughtful independent, has stood unwaveringly beside Trump while he's questioned the heroism of POWs, denigrated Gold Star families, and now challenged the strength of Soldiers with mental wounds.

In the North Country, we take care of our own--and that includes our Soldiers. Congresswoman Stefanik’s silence on his statements sends a signal to military families and veterans that she lacks either the political courage or the moral compass to stand up to a bully when he comes from her own party. That's just typical of the problem with Washington today.

I'm ready to change it, and I hope I have your support.

Thank you,

Mike Derrick
