THERE'S MORE WORK TO BE DONE

Lucas,

Our freedom comes with a heavy price, and Memorial Day is an opportunity to honor the sacrifices made by so many courageous men and women to protect and defend our nation.

I was honored today to speak at my hometown’s Memorial Day service at the Randolph Cemetery. My family, like so many others in our rural communities across Western New York and the Southern Tier, has a rich history of service. My father and both of my grandfathers served in the armed forces, as did my brother and one of my sisters. But even beyond them, I grew up surrounded by service members, veterans, and their families, learning the values and traditions and sacrifices that come from service to our nation. I have done my best to carry on their example, just as my brother and sister and so many of my friends and classmates have done in the military as well.

As we take time today to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, we should also recommit ourselves to doing our part to ensure we stand by our service members, veterans, and their families. There’s much more work to be done, and if I am elected to Congress, ensuring that we protect and defend those who have sacrificed for our security will always be foremost in my mind.

I hope you have a safe and happy Memorial Day.

Thanks,

John
