Lawyers for the City of New York and the Plaintiffs in Blatt v. NYC today advised United States District Court Judge that the NYPD has agreed not to promote any sergeant to lieutenant from the 2015 exam. The NYPD also agreed to provide 30 days notice to the Plaintiffs’ Attorney, Randolph M. McLaughlin, before any promotions are made from the eligible list. The attached letter was filed in court this afternoon: Blatt- Letter-Motion filed on March 25, 2016. In light of the agreement, the parties have asked the Court to adjourn the hearing on Plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction that was scheduled for Monday, March 28th.

Commenting on the announcement, Randolph M. McLaughlin said, “The NYPD made the correct decision in light of the widespread allegations of cheating on the 2015 exam. It is in the best interest of the Department and the public that cheaters not be rewarded with a promotion.”

The case will continue in federal court.

Randolph M. McLaughlin, Esq. is legal counsel at Newman Ferrara LLP.
