PETERS BROKE THE RULES

As a father of two, my children’s safety -- and the safety of children across the country -- is my number one concern.

And every day I worry. I worry that my children won’t come home, or that your children won’t come home. Because Lucas, our current laws leave room for far too much gun violence.

That’s why my Democratic colleagues and I began a sit-in to demand Republicans in Congress allow for a vote on gun reform legislation.

We stayed on the House Floor for almost 26 hours, and Lucas, we are determined to continue this fight until gun safety becomes a priority in the halls of our Congress.

Thousands have signed our petition to demand Congress take action on gun safety. Lucas, will you join them?

Thanks,

Scott

P.S. During the sit-in, cameras on the House Floor were turned off. But I wanted Americans to be able to see what was going on, so I streamed coverage from my phone.Read the article about it below:

“Why Scott Peters live streamed House gun control sit-in”
June 22, 2016

San Diego's own Rep. Scott Peters was a rebel with a cause Wednesday when he broke congressional rules and livestreamed a sit-in over gun control reform on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Democratic lawmakers all staged a sit-in in an effort to spur the House of Representatives to vote on gun control legislation. Congressional leaders took turns speaking and said they wouldn't rise until House Speaker Paul Ryan R-Wis. allowed a vote, following in the footsteps of Senate Democrats who filibustered on the same issue for nearly 15 hours last week.

Peters was among them, and when the House session was halted Wednesday and cameras were shut off during the group's speeches, he used a livestreaming app called Periscope to show that the sit-in continued and what the congressmen and women were saying. C-SPAN, the cable network that is constantly streaming the events of both arms of Congress, followed his lead and began streaming his periscope feed.

Peters' stream gained thousands of followers and national attention, including these headlines:
