Dear Friend,
Exciting news: Today, history was made as
President Obama designated a new national monument at the historic site
of the Stonewall Uprising in Greenwich Village. The Stonewall National Monument is the first national
monument dedicated to the struggle for LGBT rights.
Click here to see a video produced by the White House about this historic action.
President Obama deserves great praise for this historic move. I want to
also thank
Congressman Jerrold Nadler, who played a key role in making this happen, as well as the many advocates
who worked towards this moment. I’m proud that NYC Council legislation
played a role in the creation of this monument.
In the wake of the tragedy in Orlando, this is indeed a time of mixed emotions.
PRIDE MARCH UPDATE
I’d like to announce that I have invited
Gays Against Guns, a new grassroots LGBT organization formed in the wake of the June 12
Orlando massacre, to march with our contingent on Sunday in the NYC Pride March.
Gays Against Guns will partner with existing gun-control and LGBT groups to leverage community
power against the gun lobby. They're taking this fight to the NRA’s
front door. The LGBT community has vanquished bigger enemies than the
National Rifle Association.
Here are the logistics for Sunday:
TIME:
Sunday, June 26
11:00 am (sharp)
LOCATION:
35th Street between Fifth Avenue & Madison Avenue
You must enter from Madison Avenue! Crossing Fifth Avenue will not be
permitted.
Kindly RSVP at

Happy Pride!

Council Member, 3rd Council District
