FIGHTING LGBTQ DISCRIMINATION

Lucas, a federal judge [recently] struck down a major provision of Mississippi's so-called religious freedom law. The judge ruled that state clerks cannot cite their religious beliefs in order to refuse marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

The Religious Liberty Accomodation Act allows business, individuals, and religious organizations to legally discriminate against LGBTQ people, as long as they believe it is their god's will. This is not religious freedom. Religious freedom is not a license to hate.

While this ruling strikes a huge blow to the law, discrimination is still the law of the land in Mississippi.

Sign the petition: Tell state legislatures we will fight back against every attempt to legalize anti-LGBTQ discrimination in this country.

Homophobia and transphobia have devastating real world impacts. LGBTQ people can be denied critical services, employment, and even use of public facilities. The Pulse nightclub shooting is more proof that hatred can be deadly.

Earlier this year, tens of thousands of Daily Kos members stood up to denounce Mississippi's anti-LGBTQ law, the most aggressive in the nation. Add your voice to those and many more, not only to denounce legalized bigotry in Mississippi, but all over the United States.

Add your name to tell state lawmakers we will fight back against every attempt to legalize anti-LGBTQ bigotry in this country.

Even if it's bit by bit, we will win.

Keep fighting,
Irna Landrum, Daily Kos
