MIKE NEEDS YOU TO STEP UP

Friend -

Kathy and I have four beautiful children. The single greatest privilege of my life is being a good father to them. After our fourth was born, Kathy and I decided it was best for our family if I became a stay-at-home-dad. I left active duty and transferred to the Army Reserve. She continued her full-time duties and I became a citizen-soldier. That way, she could focus on the demands of Army service (we moved three times in five years), and I devoted my efforts to raising good kids. It was the right decision for all of us. Those five years remain some of the best years of my life.

Being a dad is important because so much of my vision for our future stems from raising my own children. They are what gives me energy and hope for our future. As a dad, one of my primary responsibilities has been and continues to be ensuring a foundation for their success.

I believe that this foundation begins with access to preschool and quality K-12 education. Kathy and I wanted all our children to strive for excellence in school, and we knew that preschool was a necessary ingredient to lay the right foundation. This isn't just our view--many studies point to preschool as a crucial role in preparedness and success later in school. Making Pre-K universal to households in America is putting families first. And families are a priority I will always support.

We’re just under 80 days out from Election Day, so it’s important that we exceed our goals at every mark along the way. We need you to step up for these values we hold close.

Friend, my family's values are no different than your family’s values. We believe in rewarding hard work. We believe that a central component of the American Dream is opportunity. And we know that we’re stronger when we’re working together. So together we can build a better, fairer community that gives every child access to quality education. But that's not going to happen with people in Washington who are afraid to roll up their sleeves and do what needs to be done.

Our political system needs to be shaken up. Contribute $5, $10, or $25 toward our campaign right now.

Thank you for being a partner to our campaign,

Mike Derrick
