Lucas,
To Americans across the nation, Memorial Day marks the start of summer,
the end to the school year and a moment to enjoy time with friends and family.
But we must remember that this is a solemn day created to honor those
who gave their lives and shed their blood to protect our freedoms.
We must not forget their heroism.
While Memorial Day is a tribute to our fallen soldiers, it is also a time
to redouble our efforts to help those servicemembers who returned from
battle scarred by wounds both seen and unseen.
As the Ranking Member on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee’s
Subcommittee on Health, I am constantly working to make sure that our
veterans receive the quality and timely care that they earned and deserve.
Whatever you are doing on this holiday, please take a moment of pause
to think about those brave men and women who fought, sacrificed and continue
to serve our great nation.
