The votes are in, and I'm excited to announce that
Ayanna Pressley is this year's recipient of the Gabrielle Giffords
Rising Star Award!
The award recognizes a young woman serving in state or local office who
has a promising trajectory of public service ahead of her, and boy does
Ayanna's future look bright. She's a Boston City Councillor who
made history as the first woman of color ever elected to the city council.
She founded the Committee on Women & Healthy Communities, which focuses
on issues unique to girls and women. And she has earned national attention
for her work with survivors of violence, on teen parenting, and sexual
health education.
Will you join me and congratulate Ayanna on all her hard work and being
a Rising Star?
We'll be presenting Ayanna with her award next month at our 30th Anniversary
celebration in D.C. I could not be more excited for the EMILY's List
community to meet and hear from this amazing woman who we expect will
do even more great things.
It's not just receiving the physical award that means so much to Rising
Star honorees. It's knowing that this community of more than three
million people support the work that they do.
