CAROLYN WANTS MORE MONEY

Lucas,

This month marks the 52nd anniversary of the Equal Pay Act. But even after 52 years, women still only earn an average of 78 cents for every dollar men earn.

Is this what over half a century of progress looks like?

In the past 52 years, more women have not only entered the workforce, but they have become our nation’s entrepreneurs, innovators, and leaders. Don’t they deserve a fair paycheck?

We can’t sit quietly and wait for the wage gap to close on its own. That’s why I’m sponsoring the Equal Rights Amendment to make sure it’s clear once and for all that equal means equal. And it’s why I'm fighting to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, to help secure equal pay for all Americans. But I need your help.

My colleagues and I are collecting 52,000 signatures in support of equal pay for equal work. Will you add your name in support of equal pay?

Pay equity is not just a women’s issue. Women make up almost half of our workforce, and many are the primary breadwinners for their families. Achieving equal pay would make it easier for families to pay for things like childcare, groceries, and rent.

It’s simple: Equal pay would boost our nation’s entire economy.

It’s outrageous that in 2015 – 52 years after the Equal Pay Act – we are still fighting to achieve full pay equity. We have to speak up for women and families today:

Add your name: Stand up for equal pay for equal work!

There’s still so much we have to do to achieve full gender equality, but adding your name today is something you can do to help right now.

Thank you for joining with me,

Carolyn
