Right now Republicans in Albany are stalling, blocking laws that would make a real difference in the lives of so many New Yorkers. Rent regulations expired at midnight Monday and State Senate Republicans are still blocking our efforts to strengthen those laws, but I’m not giving up on this fight. Can you help support me in this effort?
Republicans in Albany - and their anti-tenant friends - either don’t understand or don’t care about the plight of working families who might be pushed out of the city if their rents increase. What they’ve put forward as a “compromise" is unworkable and completely out-of-touch with the reality that so many of us renters face. We’re going to keep fighting for real protections for tenants.
And working with Governor Cuomo, we’ll achieve real police reform that keeps our community safe. Yesterday, the Assembly passed my bill to create a special office to investigate police shootings. After seeing what happened with Eric Garner, what happened in Ferguson, what has happened far too many times in far too many places around New York and across the country, it’s time for reform. While Republicans block laws, we’re creating progress.
We need to keep that leadership in Congress. In the face of opposition from Republicans disconnected from the lives of hardworking people, our community can’t afford to lose a strong voice for our values, and I’ll stand up for us in Washington.
