YEAR 5 FOR CITIZENS UNITED

Tell Congress: Put an end to Citizens UnitedLucas, [last week] marks five years since the Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United.

But this anniversary is no cause for celebration.

In the 2014 election, outside groups spent more than $500 million to drown out the voices of hardworking Americans. These groups run negative ads on a seemingly endless loop, poisoning our electoral process.

If we are to get back to a government that reflects our values, we have to do away with this toxic decision. The marriage of Super PACs and campaigns cannot last. We have to stop Citizens United now, before it sees another anniversary.

My colleagues and I are speaking out today, while we have this spotlight. Will you join us? Now, before another election is here, we have to make ourselves heard.

Click here to help send a message to Congress: It is past time for action against Citizens United now.

Citizens United gives private corporations unprecedented power to spend limitless amounts of money to buy elections. It stands in direct opposition to everything you and I believe.

Raising the minimum wage, passing equal pay and guaranteeing paid family leave for every worker – we need to make meaningful progress on these critical issues, and we can't do that if our voices are drowned out.

Now is the time to take action, before five years turns to six, 10, 20, and we can never get out from under this. Add your voice now, and demand Congress overturn Citizens United.

You deserve a voice in your government. Together, we won't let up until you get it.

Thank you,

Kirsten [Gillibrand]
