HE WAS JUST CURIOUS

Computer Child Porn Lands Mexican National Behind Bars

(Bronx, NY – January 23, 2015) -- "I'm just curious," said MARCO MOSSO. His curiosity, which led not only to downloading but also to distributing kiddie porn from his computer, is landing the 39-year-old Mexican national behind bars, announces Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson.

MOSSO was sentenced today by Supreme Court Justice Steven Barrett to two-to-six years behind bars, following a plea of guilty to Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child. MOSSO also waived his right to appeal.

The case against MARCO MOSSO developed during a joint investigation between the Bronx District Attorney's Office and detectives assigned to the NYPD Sex Crimes Unit. Following an investigation of child pornography being distributed over a popular peer-to-peer file sharing program, the detectives narrowed their focus to one IP address – Mosso's computer at 2309 Holland Avenue in the Bronx. A search of his computer revealed MOSSO had dozens of videos of children engaged in sexual conduct, some as young as three years old. MOSSO not only downloaded the videos and images, but also shared more than a half-dozen of the videos with other users, through Ares, a public peer-to-peer program.

"I understand I'm sharing files with [others]," the defendant told police. "The program says to share or you will be banned.

"I enjoy watching it because I'm curious. I know it's illegal and wrong, but I'm curious."

After he serves his time on this charge, MOSSO may then be turned over to immigration authorities for possible deportation to his home country of Mexico.

The case against MARCO MOSSO was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Kate Christobek and Megan Friedland of the Bronx D.A.'s Arson/Auto/Economic Crime Bureau, under the direction of Bureau Chief William Zelenka.
