CITYWIDE STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED

Friends,

New York City is now under a citywide state of emergency related to an ongoing blizzard warning in effect from Monday, January 26th until the afternoon of Wednesday, January 28th.

Current forecasts note snow up to 18 to 24 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Residents should be generally mindful of high winds, low temperatures, and dangerous road conditions.

Important to Note:

  • Department of Education: All city public schools are closed tomorrow, January 27th.
  • Department of Parks and Recreation: All city parks will be closed as of 6:00PM this evening, January 26th. Parks will be tracking limbs/trees down.
  • Department of Homeless Services: Code Blue protocol is in effect- no one seeking shelter will be denied.
  • Alternate Side Parking: Will be suspended citywide for tomorrow, January 27th to facilitate snow removal. Payment at parking meters will remain in effect throughout the city.
  • Garbage collection and recycling are cancelled tomorrow, January 27th.
  • All NYCHA community and senior centers will be closed tomorrow, January 27th.
  • City streets and highways will close to all but emergency vehicles as of 11:00PM tonight, January 26th.

Getting Information:

  • Call 911 immediately for any emergency situation.
  • Call 311 for non-emergency situations or for information about the storm and/or services available.
  • Winter weather information and information about City services and storm response, including the Snow Vehicle Tracker to find your roadway's snow removal progress can be found by visiting the City's Severe Weather website or by calling 311.
  • City residents are advised to stay off the roads if possible.
  • NYCHA residents should contact the Customer Contact Center (CCC) which is available 24/7 to report any heat and/or hot water issues and other maintenance concerns at: (718) 707-7771
