FERMIN FLORES FINISHED

FERMIN FLORES SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS IN STATE PRISON FOR EAST VILLAGE SEXUAL ASSAULT

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., recently announced the sentencing of FERMIN FLORES, 33, to 14 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a woman after pushing into the victim’s East Village apartment as the victim returned home. On February 26, 2015, the defendant pleaded guilty in New York State Supreme Court to the top charge in the indictment against him, Rape in the First Degree.

“This was a predatory assault on a defenseless young woman,” said District Attorney Vance. “Fermin Flores pursued his victim all the way to her home—the very place where she should have been safe—and then brutally attacked her when her guard was down. No prison sentence can fully account for the trauma suffered by rape victims, but I want to thank all of those involved in the arrest and prosecution of this defendant for making sure that he can’t hurt anyone else.”

According to the defendant’s guilty plea, at approximately 2 a.m. on January 13, 2013, FLORES followed a 22-year-old woman into her apartment building on East 7th Street between First and Second Avenues. As the woman unlocked her door, the defendant pushed her inside the apartment, where he sexually assaulted her.

Assistant District Attorney Maxine Rosenthal handled the prosecution of the case, under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Martha Bashford, Chief of the Sex Crimes Unit, Executive Assistant District Attorney Audrey Moore, Chief of the Special Victims Bureau, and Executive Assistant District Attorney John Irwin, Chief of the Trial Division.
