WHERE'RE YOUR DRUGS FROM?

Drugs from where

From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I’m Ira Dreyfuss with HHS HealthBeat.

If you buy your prescription drugs from a U.S. or Canadian company, you can be confident you’re getting the real thing – not a counterfeit. But if you buy through an Internet supplier, can be you sure?

At the Food and Drug Administration, Deputy Commissioner Howard Sklamberg says many Internet drug sites have gotten good at faking their real location:

“The global anonymity of the Internet can provide a safe haven for illicit prescription drug sales. Many websites lead unsuspecting customers in the United States to believe the dispensing pharmacy is in the United States or Canada.”

Sklamberg says counterfeit drugs sold on the Internet might have too little, too much or none of the real prescription medication, and could have other contaminants that could make a person sick.
