NATIONAL POPULAR VOTE BILL

Lucas,

Florida: 40.

New York: 0.

In the 2012 presidential race, once both parties had nominated their candidates, Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, Joe Biden and Paul Ryan held 40 public campaign events — like rallies, speeches and town hall meetings — in Florida.

They did not hold a single public event in New York.

In fact, of the 253 public campaign events held nationwide, 251 — all but two — took place in the 10 "battleground" states of Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

That's because our system for electing a president (a.k.a. the Electoral College) results in candidates ignoring any state where they are comfortably ahead or hopelessly behind.

Shouldn't EVERY voter, in EVERY state, have a say in who gets to be president of the United States?

Take action with our allies at National Popular Vote and urge your New York state legislators to pass the National Popular Vote bill.

The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the presidency to the candidate who receives the most votes nationwide — making your vote count, no matter where you live.

Bills supporting the National Popular Vote have already passed in California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and the District of Columbia.

Make your voice heard today, so that your vote counts tomorrow.

If you think a voter in New York should matter as much as a voter in Florida, email your state legislators right now and ask them to support the National Popular Vote bill.

Thank you for taking action.
