CUT THE CORD

Jennifer F. was denied unemployment insurance benefits after she was fired for purloining a computer cord which belonged to her employer. She also allegedly made personal calls on the company's cell phone--which added costs to her employer's bill.

Because "dishonesty, including the theft of property," is disqualifying conduct, both the Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board and the Appellate Division, Third Department, concluded that Jennifer was ineligible for assistance.

Honestly?
