WENDY'S SURGING

When it comes to campaigns and politics, I’ve been around the block. And seeing as I grew up in Texas, let me translate what “creeping up” in the polls means --

Wendy is surging.

With help from people like you, she’s cut Abbott’s lead from 17 points a month ago to just 8 points today -- with Abbott below 50%. She will win if we keep this surge going.

Your efforts make Wendy’s unprecedented campaign possible. Give $5 or more toward Wendy’s $350,000 August goal right now.

Wendy has made her campaign all about stories. Let me tell you mine.

My story’s a Texan story, and one I’m proud of. I grew up in Missouri City, Texas just outside of Houston. Graduated from John Foster Dulles High School in Sugar Land (home of the Mighty Vikings!), went to school at the University of Texas (Hook ‘em Horns!) and have worked on campaigns all over the world. So much of the success I’ve been so lucky to have in my life -- my family, my education, my work -- is because of the opportunities I gained from having a great Texas public education. I had teachers and coaches and professors who were paid by the State of Texas -- and I honor what they -- and Texas -- have done for me.

Here's the question: will the next generation of middle-class kids (and poor kids too) get the same opportunities I had? Doesn't seem likely when Greg Abbott is in court defending education cuts that have cost Texas 25,000 teachers. Or a war on higher ed waged by the GOP. In fact, it seems near impossible if Greg Abbott is able to cut insider deals in the Governor's office that cut middle-class Texans out.

Wendy believes that all hardworking Texans deserve opportunity -- and I couldn’t agree more. She wants all kids to have the opportunities she had - and I had as well. It’s her determination and drive to make something better that sparked Wendy’s campaign in the first place.

Attacks and advertising can’t bring her down. I don’t care if the money is coming from the Kochs, shady special interest groups, political insiders, or Greg Abbott himself.

Wendy may not have Karl Rove or the Koch Brothers. But she has something better: you. And in the end, that’s what will turn this surge into a victory party in November. But it won’t happen without your help. So give what you can, even if it’s just $5, and help Wendy get the $350,000 she needs this month to keep fighting to the end.

I can’t wait to see Wendy sworn in as the next Governor of Texas.

Thanks for making it happen.
